We’re engaged!

Well I mentioned in my first post that Ben and I recently got engaged, so I thought I would share a few of the details!  Ben and I have been together for a year and a half, but we knew each other before we started dating.  We work at the same university, and our jobs had thrown us together from time to time.  I always thought he was a super nice guy who was great at his job 🙂

Fast forward to a few weeks ago:  Ben and I were FINALLY going on a vacation together!  We tried to go away last summer, but things just didn’t work out the way we hoped.  This time around we didn’t want to spend a ton of money and only had a few days off so we decided to stay fairly close to home. The Baltimore Inner Harbor was our choice!

Our first day in Baltimore we went to the Science Center and attended an Orioles game (my first professional baseball game ever!), so it was a pretty full day with lots of walking in warm weather.  Fun, but exhausting!  On our second day there, we took our time getting to the Inner Harbor and went first to a great little place called Geppi’s Entertainment Museum.  I highly recommend stopping in if you’re in the area, especially if you’re a pop culture buff like we both are.  They had tons of items that took me back to my childhood (original Rainbow Brite dolls and Care Bears, anyone?) and all kinds of comic books and 80’s stuff for Ben.

After a quick dinner at a sandwich shop, Ben and I headed back to the dock area for our evening cruise of the Inner Harbor on the Watermark yacht, the Raven (so very appropriate for Baltimore).  We were surrounded by about a team of 12 and 13-year old lacrosse players and their parents, but it was still pretty romantic.  The evening harbor skyline was beautiful, and the breeze off the water felt amazing.  About 30 minutes into the cruise, Ben popped the question (neither of us can really remember what he said!) and we drank the champagne that he had arranged for ahead of time. It was such a special surprise, and I’ll remember it forever.  I’m so glad to be engaged to such a great guy!

There’s a new girl in town!

Hello!  This is an exciting day for me, my very first blog post!   This blog has been years in the making, and I’m excited to finally get started.  A lot will be happening in the next semester: I’m finishing up my Master’s program, and my fiancé and I are in the initial planning stages of our wedding.  You’ll find that much of my life is counted in semesters – I work on a college campus, and am a part-time grad student so my life centers around 15-week blocks of time.

I would love for this blog to be an account of our wedding planning process, our life, and of my endless DIY projects.  I’m a crafter at heart, and have admittedly been pretty lax at documenting all of my projects through the years.  I’m making a promise to myself that this blog will help me document things better than I have in years (more than a quick photo posted to my Facebook wall).

I’ll be back sometime in the next few days with my second-ever post…maybe I’ll even write about our engagement!

See you soon!

Jen
